bought some plants....

went to a few local sources and purchased: petunias, can't find the tag, rose Rosa, purchased at the supermarket(Big Y), some seed geraniums(gerania?), and some standard six-pak of lobelia, patio tomato, and parsley from the North Adams Garden Club sale last Saturday. Peak spring weather.
i planted the pots that decorate the front walk, swept up and burned a lot of last fall's debris, and enjoyed the perfumed smoke.

steamy

This image provided by the Alaska Volcano Observatory/U.S. Geological Survey shows the Redoubt Volcano, Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 near Anchorage, Alaska. Scientists with the Alaska Volcano Observatory on Friday flew close to Drift Glacier and saw vigorous steaming emitted from a football-size area on the north side of the mountain. By Saturday, they had confirmed the area was a fumarole, an opening in the earth that emits gases and steam, and that it had doubled overnight. after the storm

saw this on weatherundergroound while looking about for info on the big winter storm headed our way today in new england - the photographer tagged this as taken last saturday in spain, where there was a monster winter storm. Discussion on the site about whether or not we can tell if global warming is in play here. Gotta go to work! (First shovel the car out!)

the beauty around us

saw this on boing boing - these are really marvelous photos using an ordinary camera and patience. Rick Lieder has a new book - saw samples on his blog cloudboxer.

a place to gather ideas

this will be a place to sort out ideas about the environment - from the garden in the back yard, to community supported agriculture to city and state environmental policies to Barack Obama's new wave of leadership, and of course, science and ideas about the global picture.

please join me in this exploration of ideas and solutions with your comments and contributions!
